5 Reasons to Join a Gym

Joining a gym is a great idea, and the best time to do so is in October. With your membership, you can start building the habit of working out regularly and add it to your Christmas letter. You’ll also be settled in your workouts when the folks trying to keep their resolutions start in January.

1) New Equipment

If you’re ready to try a new workout at home, you may wind up investing in workout gear that you don’t like, at which point it will either start gathering dust or get covered in other junk in your storage room. Rather than wasting your money and feeling bad about it, your gym membership will allow you to test drive new machines and walk away if you don’t like them.

2) Mats

A high quality mat for stretching and crunches can be pricey, and unless you have a designated workout space, they’re awkward to store. Skip the wear and tear and use the mats at your gym. You’ll find spray cleaner and a fresh towel at the front desk, and if it wears out, the gym will buy another one.

3) Multiple TVs

If your spouse wants to watch the weather or the news and you’d rather watch an old black and white TV show, go to the gym and ride the recumbent bike while you enjoy your entertainment, lifting your spirit as you strengthen your heart. This also works if you want to watch the news and your kids want to watch cartoons. You get in a workout, build strength, increase your fitness, maintain family harmony and save yourself the expense of another television.

4) Water

If you choose to wash up at the gym after your workout, you’re not on the hook to clean the shower. They may even wash your towel, if you sign up for the right service. How often do you get that kind of pampering? Depending on how many people are in your household, your gym membership can actually reduce your water bill. Finally, you can enjoy a swim and a sauna at the end of a long day. What a gift!

5) Personal Trainers

Working with a personal trainer is the fastest and safest way to make sure that your workouts are effective. Your trainer will observe where you are and help you build core strength so you can increase your workout intensity. They’ll monitor your form so your exercise routine causes soreness instead of injuries.

Your gym membership can be the difference between struggling when you’re under stress and working out your frustrations. If you can’t get there every day, work to make it every other day. Set an appointment with a personal trainer to start a little weight lifting or do some jogging. Your fitness goals get closer once you have a gym membership.
