List the major steps you have taken in the last four years to increase readership. Please organize your response under four headings: content, brand, service, culture.

Content
More narrative writing, rail, ordinary people box, new business feature, more photos.

Brand
Celebrating our 150th anniversary gave us chance to re-brand internally and externally, also helped with culture.

Service
Change hours, online subscriptions, email feedback.

What is the most innovative, successful or noteworthy thing you have done on readership that you think other papers might learn from or want to emulate?
We started a What you Missed Box in our A1 rail that talks about what was in yesterday's newspaper from ads to stories, getting a good reaction from readers

What is the most persuasive indication you have that your readership efforts are producing results?
I get positive feedback, but honestly I have yet to see anything quantitative - it's very frustrating.

What is the most important lesson you have learned as you have worked on readership in the last few years?
I was surprised that our Neighbors section was rated so highly by readers - but it's all local. It's incredibly time consuming to produce, but it was ranked highest in our studies. Instead of it being the ugly stepchild in the newsroom that no one wanted to work on, it suddenly has value.

What would you like to do on readership that you have not been able to do and why haven't you been able to do it?
I would like to see more studies correlating NIE efforts with long-term readership. I would also like more tips on how to get light or non-readers into the paper.
