List the major steps you have taken in the last four years to increase readership. Please organize your response under four headings: content, brand, service, culture.
Developed a whole new newspaper in October of 2001 using the eight key findings.

Built the "Making a Difference" theme and it helps us in our mission.

On time delivery performance in production assisting our customer delivery.

Much more open culture with all employees. It varies, of course, by department. New management doing good overall job here.

What is the most innovative, successful or noteworthy thing you have done on readership that you think other papers might learn from or want to emulate?
Three zones with a second local front page on page three. Local used to be in the B Section.

What is the most persuasive indication you have that your readership efforts are producing results?
Response from the community leaders in the many communities we serve. How they compare us now to two years ago.

What is the most important lesson you have learned as you have worked on readership in the last few years?
No magic or silver bullet in growing circulation numbers. Still a challenge and the place where we need innovative leadership.

What would you like to do on readership that you have not been able to do and why haven't you been able to do it?
Larger promotion budget to promote our good work. The national and local economy in California is a challenge.
