A small-town newspaper is much more than folded pages of newsprint with the day's events. It is a vein through which culture, growth and community pride should flow. To enrich the lives of our readers, we hosted the United States Army Field Band Jazz Ambassadors - a free concert in the park for more than 800 local residents.

Culture
Healthy team dynamics (mud volleyball tournament, league volleyball in summer and fall, weekly team lunches, daily morning coffee, staff birthday parties, weekly social gatherings)

Commitment to community (Craig Rotary and Lions Club representations, Chamber of Commerce Board member, United Way Board Member, City Softball League, Special Olympics coaches, Moffat County Partners mentor, Downtown Business Association Member, Grand Olde West Days Committee)

What is the most innovative, successful or noteworthy thing you have done on readership that you think other papers might learn from or want to emulate?
Our new column entitled "Bleeding the Black Ink," which is a forum for the Craig Daily Press editor to bring journalism issues to the public and to explain and provoke discussion from readers about the issues as we see and perceive them and how they affect our ability to do our jobs each day. For example, we discuss everything from political advertising policies to correction policies and it has helped to bring our readers into closer touch with the newspaper staff.

What is the most persuasive indication you have that your readership efforts are producing results?
Increased circulation.

What is the most important lesson you have learned as you have worked on readership in the last few years?
Public perception is everything. What we think is great or bad may not be at all the way another individual perceives a situation. It is important to be cognizant of what our readers think and to adjust our processes accordingly.

What would you like to do on readership that you have not been able to do and why haven't you been able to do it?
Conduct more community forums, roundtables or other events that encourage input and discussion. We have not had the proper training to facilitate a professional discussion, but recently attended the APME credibility forum training and look forward to doing the roundtables beginning this fall.
