Rate Stories for Satisfaction
Understanding what readers want is one thing, translating that into practice for reporters and editors is another. These story rating sheets help you do both.

This system was developed as part of a study designed to evaluate the components of reader satisfaction, Inside Satisfaction: What it means, how to increase it. Using these evaluation sheets you'll be able to gauge various components of satisfaction including readability, appeal, and information value. The rating sheets give you an overall rating of the story and detail about what aspects of the story are weak and strong.

The first rating sheet can be used with readers to get their reaction to the story. The second sheet can be used by reporters and editors to rate their own stories. Both sheets ask similar questions and allow you to see if readers and editors have different opinions about what makes a great story. Results can be tabulated by simply totalling the point score.
