Ball State University prototypes

Journalism students at Ball State University designed several prototype go-and-do boxes to accompany government or other institutional stories. Here are three text-only examples that combine visual appeal with clean, uncluttered lines and ease of execution. There is also one that incorporates a small photo to illustrate the possibilities of photographic “clip art.”

Take One | Take Two

It is possible to use photographic “clip art” to enliven go & do boxes. In this case a photo of an Ionic column is used. The Ball State student newspaper began its “clip art” file by taking studio photographs of 50 common items, such as a martini glass, a football, a music CD, and over time built the file to 500 items, including this column. Other items that might be used would include law books, blueprints, cornerstones on government buildings. It’s an easy matter to pull a clip from the file for use in a logo, go-and-do box, skybox, etc.
